Guide
Getting started
Build and run the first version of Sew.
On this page
Sew is a build tool, like Make. It is at the beginning of its implementation: the command currently exits successfully without producing any output.
Build from source
With Go installed, run these commands from a checkout of the Sew repository:
go build -o sew ./cmd/sew
./sew
Returning to the prompt without a message is the expected result. This version does not read a Sewfile or run build commands yet.
Follow the work
The guide will grow alongside the implementation. For now, the other two parts of this site explain where the work starts:
-
Building Sew follows the design and implementation of the build tool itself.
-
My Sewfile follows the design and implementation of my own build setup, in the same spirit as makefile.fyi.
Design notes describe work in progress. Examples in those notes are proposals until the guide documents them as working behavior.
